My Diagnosis

I was diagnosed with Invasive ductal carcinoma – Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC). Only 10-20% of breast cancers are diagnosed as TNBC and unfortunately, is an aggressive cancer, with fewer treatment options and has a worse prognosis. Triple-negative refers to cancer cells not having estrogen or progesterone receptors and doesn’t have too much of a protein called HER2. My cancer had 3-5% estrogen and progesterone and low HER2 protein present. Luckily, my cancer was detected early – Stage 1b. Original tumor size measured 1.3 cm (MRI) and up to 2.3 cm (Mammogram and Ultrasound) and was localized – meaning no signs of cancer spreading to outside areas of the breast. I also had calcifications scattered up to 8 cm surrounding the tumor that came back as precancerous with Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) with a high percentage of estrogen and progesterone. I was told by a nurse that it was likely my cancer first started up to 3-5 years ago with a surge of hormones and developed into a triple negative tumor.

My Treatment Plan

May 13, 2024 to October 3, 2024 I had AC-T or AC-Taxol (doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide followed with paclitaxel) chemotherapy infusions for 20 weeks – AC biweekly for 8 weeks and T weekly for 12 weeks. Followed with a bilateral mastectomy November 2024 and reconstruction in 2025. It is likely I will have to take Carboplatin, which is a chemotherapy in a pill form following surgery.

My Support

My support system during this tough year has been THE BEST. Starting with my home life – my kids keep everything fun and light – even on my darkest days, they force their light in and don’t even know the power they have. My husband and my mom have been my back bone through all of the ups and downs, attending doctor appointments with me, and just simply letting me go through all the feels and being my rocks. My family, friends, church family, coworkers, and people I have met along the way have been such positive support. I can honestly say, through this diagnoses, I have felt the most loved in my life.
